Now through spring 2026, there will be construction work on the Student Recreation Center to replace its roof, which has reached the end of its life after more than 35 years.
During the construction project, a section of Area 18 will be used for staging needed materials.
"We're excited to see this long-anticipated project underway," said Tony North, director of recreational services. "The new roof is a significant investment in the future of the Student Recreation Center, ensuring it remains a safe, welcoming and reliable space for students and the entire UToledo community."
The construction will be a two-phase project that will begin with the metal roof section above the track/courts area. The second phase will be the EPDM roof section over the pool area, which will include the replacement of the skylights.
The second phase will start in the spring once weather allows as the EPDM section has temperature requirements. There will be a brief period that the pool will be closed to replace the skylights but otherwise the day-to-day functions of the Student Recreation Center will remain the same.
