Emerson Skate Park Landscaping Begins

The City of Grand Junction, working through project general contractor Ford Construction and landscaping subcontractor Clarke and Company, has officially begun landscaping work at the new Emerson Skate Park. This marks the final step in the completion of this community space.

This past week, several areas within the park were hydroseeded. This seeding process is expected to take two to three months for the grass to germinate and become established. During this time, Grand Junction Parks and Recreation ask community members to avoid walking on the grass and instead use designated pedestrian paths throughout the park. To help protect the growing turf, Ford Construction will install orange safety fencing along these paths to safeguard the newly seeded areas. In addition to turf establishment, landscaping efforts will include planting small shrubs and native plants in rock beds.

Also, on May 19, construction will take place on the seat cap walls surrounding the park. The curing process is expected to take 24 hours. This work may result in limited access to certain areas of the park while the improvements are underway.

The reactivation of Emerson Park is outlined as a priority in the 2021 Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Master Plan for the parks and recreation system.
