US-41 detoured Aug. 10 for culvert project in Keweenaw County

ISHPEMING, Mich. ­- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $330,000 to replace culverts on US-41 south of Washington Mine Road in Keweenaw County. Work includes replacing the culverts with concrete elliptical culverts, backfill, guardrail, slope restoration and repaving. The project will require detouring US-41 Aug. 10-14.

Traffic restrictions:
US-41 will be closed to through-traffic from the M-26/US-41 intersection in Phoenix to Copper Harbor, with a posted detour onto M-26. US-41 will remain open to local traffic on both sides of the project area. The detour is expected to last until Aug. 14.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support three jobs.

Safety benefit:
This work will replace culverts that have reached the end of their service life, extending the lifespan of the roadway and increasing safety for motorists.
