Direct Relief Ships 5.9M Doses of Medicine for Maternal Health, Disaster Response and Pediatric Care

Over the past seven days, Direct Relief dispatched 443 shipments of requested medical aid to health care providers across 36 U.S. states and territories and 16 countries.

The shipments included 5.9 million defined daily doses of medication, along with diabetes supplies, antibiotics, reproductive health medications, specialty therapies and other essential medical resources.

Midwife Kits Support Maternal Health Services in Kenya

Direct Relief-provided midwife kits are helping health providers in Kenya's Homa Bay County manage childbirth-related emergencies and improve care for mothers and newborns.

In areas where women still face serious risks during pregnancy and childbirth, the kits provide essential medicines, medical supplies and equipment needed to manage complications, including severe bleeding after delivery. Postpartum hemorrhage, or severe bleeding, is among the leading causes of maternal death.

The kits are designed to help health providers respond quickly when complications occur, while supporting safer, more timely and more dignified care during childbirth. By improving access to essential tools at health facilities, the effort supports broader work to reduce preventable deaths among mothers and newborns in the region.

At a recent event, Homa Bay Gov. Gladys Wanga highlighted the importance of collaboration in improving maternal health services across the county. Direct Relief continues to work with partners to strengthen frontline health care capacity and expand access to maternal and newborn care resources in underserved communities.

Medical Supplies Support Oklahoma Tornado Response

Direct Relief has provided emergency medical backpacks to support first responders in Enid, Oklahoma, following recent severe storms and tornado activity that damaged homes and infrastructure in the region.

Great Salt Plains Health Center received the backpacks for distribution in coordination with the Enid Fire Department and other local response agencies assisting affected residents.

The backpacks contain essential medical supplies that first responders can use to treat urgent health needs during disaster response and recovery operations.

Direct Relief continues to coordinate with health providers and community partners in Oklahoma as recovery efforts continue and additional severe weather remains a threat across parts of the central United States.

Aid Shipment Boosts Pediatric Care in Honduras

Direct Relief has sent a nine-pallet shipment of medical aid to Honduras to support Fundación Ruth Paz, a longtime partner based in San Pedro Sula.

The shipment includes medications for chronic diseases, hygiene kits, stethoscopes and other essential medical supplies to help health providers care for patients across the region.

Fundación Ruth Paz has partnered with Direct Relief since 2013. The organization operates a pediatric hospital that provides reconstructive surgery for children and adolescents who have suffered severe burns. It also offers urology, orthopedics, general medicine, podiatry and other surgical services for patients in need.

The shipment will help support care for children and other patients in San Pedro Sula and nearby communities, where access to specialty surgery, medicines and medical supplies remains critical.
