Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis Attends Celebration Ceremony of the Patron Saint of the Army, Saint George, at Infantry School

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis, today, Thursday 23 April 2026, as representative of the Hellenic Government, attended the celebration ceremony of the Great Martyr Saint George, Patron Saint of the Army, at the Infantry School in Chalkis.

The Deputy Minister was greeted by the Chief HNDGS, General Dimitrios Choupis, the Chief HAGS, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, and the Infantry School Commandant, Brigadier General Stefanos Tsotakos.

Mr. Davakis attended the Doxology at the Church of Saint George, officiated by His Grace, the Bishop of Skopelos, Mr. Nikodimos, laid a wreath at the 3rd Infantry Regiment Memorial to the Fallen, and subsequently attended a static display of weapon systems.

The celebration was also attended by MP for Evoia Thanasis Zembilis, as representative of the Hellenic Parliament, the Chief HNGS, Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras HN, the Chief HAFGS, Lieutenant General (HAF) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, Honorary Chiefs HAGS, General and Senior Officers of the Armed and Security Forces, delegations of officers of the three branches of the Armed Forces, representatives of parties and of local organisations.

Mr. Davakis, following the end of the celebration, stated the following:

"It is a great pleasure to be here today, in Chalkis, at the Infantry School, on the Feast of Saint George, Patron of the Army.

An army which draws inspiration from history and the long standing traditions and struggles of our people for liberty and independence.

Many happy returns to all!"
