Artist Matthew Mazzotta uses community input to shape public art projects
The Parks and Recreation Department today invited community members to two informal conversations in September regarding a public art piece to be installed at South Haymarket Park, Seventh and "N" streets. Artist Matthew Mazzotta will host the "Outdoor Living Room" sessions as part of his process to connect the community with his work.
The schedule is as follows:
Mazzotta will present his final design to city officials in January 2026. Fabrication and installation are expected to be complete by November 2026.
Mazzotta's community-specific projects integrate new forms of civic participation and social engagement into the built environment. Installation sites include Tampa, FL; San Diego, CA; Springfield, MO; and Chicago, IL.
His work has been featured on CNN, BBC, NPR, the Discovery Channel, and published in numerous books, journals, and magazines including Science Magazine, Wired Magazine, and Interior Design Magazine. His public art projects have received the Architecture Project of the Year by the Dezeen Awards; and have received international art and architecture awards such as the Architizer A+ Award, Azure's AZ Award, CODAawards, WAN Award, and Americans for the Arts.
