Larson Blasts Supreme Court Decision to Greenlight ICE Racial Profiling

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) blasted the Supreme Court's unsigned decisionallowing federal immigration authorities to make indiscriminate stops based on ethnicity, language, and other factors.

After a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order against indiscriminate stops by federal immigration authorities in California, Trump 'border czar' Tom Homan said, "People need to understand, ICE officers and border patrol, they don't need probable cause to walk up to somebody, briefly detain 'em and question 'em. Get our typical facts based on the location, the occupation, their physical appearance, their actions..." Today, the Supreme Court lifted that order.

"From coast to coast, Donald Trump's masked ICE operatives are terrorizing Latino communities with little to no evidence of wrongdoing," said Larson. "Trump's so-called 'border czar' even bragged back in July that someone's 'physical appearance' was sufficient evidence to detain them. Where in the Constitution does it say that? Lower courts did the right thing by stepping in to stop these Soviet secret police tactics on our soil. It is beyond shameful for this Supreme Court to greenlight them without even an ounce of an explanation. I continue to fight in Congress to get the answers our communities deserve and the accountability this moment demands. History will not be kind to those who stood idly by."

Following an ICE raid in Newington, Rep. Larson called on Congress to pass the No Secret Police Act, to require ICE agents to identify themselves and bar them from wearing masks, and the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act, to prevent ICE raids at schools, hospitals, courthouses, and places of worship.

Last week, Larson called on Congress to actto uphold longstanding federal law barring military forces from conducting domestic law enforcement after a federal judge found the President's deployment of troops to Los Angeles to be unlawful. He also joined a group of his Democratic colleagues to launch a probeinto ICE detention of service members, veterans, and military families.
