New investments in Autodesk Fusion to bring AI-powered transformation to manufacturing

SwissDrones leverages Autodesk Fusion for design, production, and digital twin management.

At AU 2025, we are not merely envisioning the future-we're making it. And nowhere is this transformation more apparent than in the design and manufacturing industry.

A paradigm shift in manufacturing

We are on the cusp of a paradigm shift in manufacturing, driven by AI. These defining moments aren't new to the industry. We've seen them before. First with the rise of parametric modeling in the 1980s and then again with the advent of Windows-based platforms in the 1990s.

But what's happening now is even bigger. AI is changing how we design, engineer, and make products, and it's moving faster than anyone expected.

This paradigm shift represents a profound opportunity to unlock capacity, increase creativity, and improve productivity. As manufacturers face a critical shortage of skilled labor, AI becomes essential. AI enables them to do more with less.

Autodesk is uniquely positioned to lead this shift. We pioneered generative design. We brought design and manufacturing to the cloud. We trained industry-specific AI foundation models. We made powerful tools accessible to entire organizations. And we have led the industry in bringing impactful AI capabilities to customers. We're continuing to build on this lead.

Delivering value today

We are delivering AI-powered solutions across every phase of the product development lifecycle. Our approach is built around three types of customer outcomes:

  • Task automation: AI automates tasks, enhances features, and provides tactical assistance to address known inefficiencies or low-value-added areas.
  • Workflow automation: AI redefines entire workflows, augments human capabilities, and unlocks high-value benefits that help customers leap forward in the end-to-end process.
  • Systems automation: Use AI to connect and learn from entire systems, then take autonomous actions to create, act, adjust, or optimize.

Rapid adoption of AI capabilities such as Automated Drawings and ConstraintGen over the last two years show the value customers see in these time-saving automations. We are inspired to continue delivering more.

What's new at AU 2025

We've made significant investments across our portfolio in the last year. Here are some of the new ways we're putting AI to work for you:

  • Generative AI-powered editable geometry in Fusion: We are developing editable boundary representation (BREP) geometry in Fusion, powered by Autodesk's proprietary foundation models for manufacturing. This will allow users to generate detailed geometry from a single prompt and get a fully editable CAD output, dramatically accelerating the design process.
  • Autodesk Assistant: Autodesk is embedding an agentic AI partner, Autodesk Assistant, across products including Fusion and Vault.
    • In Fusion: Autodesk Assistant makes it easy to invite your team members to collaborate and automates sketch constraints as well as manufacturing toolpaths, freeing engineers to focus on innovation instead of set up.
    • In Vault: Autodesk Assistant delivers natural-language search and completes follow-on actions, like updating outdated drawings. Further, the Assistant can push a Bill of Materials to PLM workflows in Fusion Manage, ensuring stakeholders across the product lifecycle have access to a single source of truth.
  • Collaboration with Microsoft: Microsoft and Autodesk are collaborating to add more AI-driven innovation to Fusion. Tapping into Microsoft's AI services like Azure OpenAI Service and models such as GPT-image-1, users can take Fusion designs, place them in context, and generate photorealistic images. For example, a newly-designed air fryer can be placed in a kitchen. That information can then be exported to Microsoft 365 and converted to a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, eliminating the need for users to manually produce creative collateral.

Building on momentum

These announcements build on the foundation we've laid over the past two years. From expanding Fusion's capabilities to integrating AI across our portfolio, we're delivering on the promise of connected, intelligent manufacturing.

AI is here, and the future is moving fast. Let's build it together.
