National Sorghum Producers Urges Senate to Preserve Year-Round E15, Advance Farm Bill

National Sorghum Producers Urges Senate to Preserve Year-Round E15, Advance Farm Bill

WASHINGTON (Aug. 5, 2026) - National Sorghum Producers today called on members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry to preserve permanent nationwide, year-round E15 language in the Agricultural Act of 2026 and advance the Farm Bill.

The updated Senate proposal would permanently remove the summertime regulatory barrier restricting sales of E15, a fuel blend containing 15% ethanol. The legislation also directs the Environmental Protection Agency to modernize E15 fuel dispenser labeling and underground storage tank regulations, addressing additional barriers that have limited voluntary retailer adoption.

"Year-round E15 is a direct market issue for sorghum farmers," said NSP Chair Amy France, a sorghum farmer from Scott City, Kan. "It creates greater certainty for ethanol producers, strengthens domestic demand for American-grown crops and gives consumers more choices at the pump. We urge senators in both parties to keep this provision intact and move the farm bill forward."

Ethanol plants across the Sorghum Belt provide an important domestic market for growers, accounting for an estimated 20% to 30% of annual U.S. sorghum demand. This supports rural jobs, U.S. energy security and value-added opportunities for agriculture.

"Sorghum farmers are navigating weak commodity prices, high production costs and continued uncertainty in export markets," France said. "Congress should be working to expand dependable domestic markets. Farmers should not have to rely on another temporary waiver or wait through another year of delay."

NSP recognizes that negotiations over the broader farm bill continue. The organization urges committee members to work across party lines, preserve a strong year-round E15 provision and advance legislation that delivers long-term certainty for farmers and rural communities.
