On Tuesday, December 2, ReMA President Robin Wiener attended The Recycling Partnership's "Recycling in America: Exploring How Recycling Strengthens the U.S. Economy" event.
She joined a panel discussion with Tazia Smith, Managing Partner & CEO at Closed Loop Partners, and Michelle Balz, Solid Waste Manager at Hamilton County ReSource. The panel was moderated by Keefe Harrison, CEO of The Recycling Partnership.
In Wiener's panel remarks, she discussed topics ranging from the definition of recycling to the importance of the CIRCLE Act, the industry's $170 billion economic impact in the United States, innovation, market access, and more.
Representative Lou Correa (D-CA) joined to provide remarks and address attendees at the briefing. He spoke on the importance of recycling, underscoring the importance of manufacturers designing with recycling in mind, and recognized the great work of ReMA member SA Recycling, which is in his district.
Later in the week, Rep. Correa introduced the Design for Recycling Resolution to recognize and encourage efforts by manufacturers to reduce waste and consumption of raw materials by designing products to maximize their recyclability.
The Resolution further recognizes the recycling industry's major contributions to the U.S. economy and the environment, through jobs created, revenue and taxes generated, and the recovery of goods, including rare earth materials.
ReMA was proud to work with the office to include ReMA economic data and highlight industry priorities.
