Action Required for Free Lead Service Line Replacement

Over 60 Homes Still Need to Submit Consent Forms

The City of DeKalb is urging residents to return their consent forms for participation in the free Lead Service Line Replacement Program. Thanks to a $3.1 million grant, eligible property owners can have their lead or galvanized water service lines replaced at no cost-but time is running out.

If you received a letter in early May and have not yet responded, please submit your signed consent form as soon as possible.

Why This Matters

Properties with lead or galvanized service lines have been identified for replacement under the Illinois Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act. If a consent form is not received:

  • The City cannot proceed with your free replacement.
  • You will be responsible for future repair or full replacement costs if your line leaks or fails.
  • When selling your home, you will be required by law to disclose the presence of a lead service line, potentially affecting your home's value and marketability.
