Cambridge Secures Grant Funding and Will Bring 2026 FIFA World Cup Watch Parties to Neighborhoods Across the Community

The City of Cambridge announced that it was named a recipient of grant funding from the Healey-Driscoll Administration and Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism in support of the upcoming 2026 World Cup.

Cambridge United - Where the World Comes Together will encompass a citywide series of free World Cup watch parties in June-July 2026, bringing the excitement of the world's most-watched sporting event to public spaces across the community. The $65,000 grant, combined with matching funds from the City, Office of Tourism and additional support from Cambridge's Business Associations, will support seven outdoor celebrations designed to bring residents, visitors, and local businesses together for a month of global connection and community pride.

Each watch party will feature live match screenings, cultural performances, family-friendly activities, and food offerings from Cambridge restaurants. Events will take place in some of Cambridge's most vibrant public spaces, including Central Square, Harvard Square, Inman Square, Kendall/MIT, East Cambridge, and during the annual Citywide Dance Party.

The watch party schedule, games, and locations are outlined below:

  • Saturday, June 13 - Haiti vs. Scotland (Central Square)
  • Tuesday, June 16 - Iraq/Bolivia/Suriname vs. Norway (Harvard Square)
  • Friday, June 19 - Scotland vs. Morocco (Inman Square)
  • Tuesday, June 23 - England vs. Ghana (MIT Open Space/Kendall Square)
  • Friday, June 26 - Norway vs. France (Central Square - Citywide Dance Party)
  • Monday, June 29 - Round of 32 (East Cambridge - Donnelly Field)
  • Thursday, July 9 - Quarterfinals (East Cambridge - Cambridge Crossing)

Exact locations and timing will be announced at a later date and published on the website Cambridge United - Where the World Comes Together.

"This is a moment for Cambridge to shine on the global stage," said Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui. "While local games will be hosted in Foxboro, we're proud to bring the spirit of the World Cup to Cambridge's dynamic neighborhoods, while supporting our local businesses, and creating opportunities for community celebration."

"The City and its business associations have a long history of delivering high-impact cultural events that attract thousands of attendees and support economic vitality," said Cambridge City Manager Yi-An Huang. "From the Citywide Dance Party to the River Festival to the Harvard Square Mayfair and many other significant events, Cambridge has consistently demonstrated the ability to host inclusive, well-organized events that celebrate culture and community. We look forward to supporting these events and making them memorable moments for our community."

By distributing events across several commercial districts and near hotels, transit, and major attractions, Cambridge aims to generate economic activity throughout Cambridge during the tournament. The Cambridge Office of Tourism will support promotional efforts, including targeted outreach to visitors, hotel materials, and regional advertising.

The City is coordinating with public safety, transportation, and accessibility partners to ensure the events are safe and welcoming for all interested participants.
