NHK World-Japan expands live and on-demand services

Starting October 1, 2025, NHK WORLD-JAPAN will expand its live and on-demand services for international television and radio programs on both its website and mobile app. The new "Live & Catch Up" feature will let viewers around the world access programs for up to seven days after their original broadcast, including some content that was previously unavailable on demand. This upgrade makes it easier for global audiences to enjoy NHK content at their convenience.

The redesigned Live & Catch Up page will also feature an integrated program guide, allowing users to watch live shows directly from the schedule and easily revisit catch-up programs. From daily news bulletins to multilingual radio news in 17 languages, all news programs will now be available on demand for up to seven days, providing quick and reliable access to NHK's latest coverage.

To further improve the viewing experience, a new restart function will allow audiences to watch live programs from the beginning, even if they join midway. Users will also be able to rewind and pause live streams, making it easier to enjoy popular shows such as GRAND SUMO Highlights. While some content may be restricted due to rights limitations, NHK's expanded services highlight its commitment to innovation and better serving audiences in the digital era.
