Agricultural Products Network Update for Friday, June 19, 2026

Operational Performance
Earlier this week, BNSF experienced a weather-related derailment on our Chillicothe Subdivision, a key segment of the Southern Transcon corridor connecting the Chicago gateway with Kansas City and the Southwest. The incident occurred Wednesday morning when severe tornadic storms moved through the area, with wind gusts near 90 mph that caused a train to overturn. Both main tracks were temporarily taken out of service.

Operating teams responded quickly, with restoration progressing overnight and both main tracks returned to service Thursday morning. Given the volume of traffic moving through this corridor, customers should expect residual delays into next week as traffic flows normalize and the network rebalances following the disruption.

Across portions of the Northern Corridor, congestion is impacting service in some areas, and BNSF is actively working to improve reliability. Locomotive power is being repositioned across the network, with approximately 50 additional units added this month, while mechanical teams are accelerating the return of locomotives to service. Additional resources, including more than 80 temporary crew members, have been deployed to help bolster operations. BNSF is also actively hiring in the North to support sustained improvement ahead of peak fall demand.

Recent severe weather and service interruptions across portions of the network are reflected in current service metrics. Car velocity declined across both comparison periods, while terminal dwell increased week over week and versus the prior month. Local service compliance was relatively flat compared to the previous week and month.

Service Expectations for the Week Ahead
Active storm patterns are expected to continue across portions of the Plains and Gulf Coast over the weekend and the week ahead, with heavy rainfall along the Gulf Coast that may result in flooding and service interruptions in some areas. Significant heat is also expected to persist across the Desert Southwest, with temperatures above 100°F in portions of the region. Teams are positioned to respond as needed to support safe and consistent operations.

Track maintenance activity and targeted expansion projects remain at peak levels across the network as part of BNSF's annual program to support long-term reliability and enhance capacity. On the Southern Transcon, work also continues at our Winslow, Arizona, yard as part of an ongoing expansion project to increase switching capabilities and improve overall yard efficiency, with a multi-day work window planned for early next week and activity continuing into mid-July.

As always, we thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
