Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two apartment building fires this morning.
Powers Street fire
At 5:59 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a 12-storey high-rise apartment building in the 100 block of Powers Street.
Once on scene, crews located a fire in one of the suites. They launched an interior fire attack, quickly bringing the fire under control.
Some occupants self-evacuated. Others were able to shelter in place in their suites. No injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
Qu'Appelle Avenue fire
At 5:08 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 300 block of Qu'Appelle Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the building. They launched an interior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:10 a.m.
Some occupants self-evacuated. Others were evacuated by firefighters. No injuries were reported.
The City's Emergency Social Services team was deployed to assist individuals displaced by the fire.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
