Penn State Altoona forward Avana Sayles, of Venetia, was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in women's basketball, the league office announced Dec. 1.
LATROBE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona forward Avana Sayles, of Venetia, was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Athlete of the Week in women's basketball the league office announced on Dec. 22.
In a road loss against Waynesburg last Saturday, Sayles notched her sixth double-double of the season, getting 17 points and 10 rebounds. She also had two steals, two blocks, and an assist in the loss.
In the AMCC, Sayles ranks third in points per game with 16.4, second in rebounds per game with 9.5, fifth in steals with 25, and third in blocks with 14. This is Sayles' second AMCC Player of the Week award this season and the fifth of her collegiate career.
Penn State Altoona women's basketball is 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the AMCC so far this season. The Lions will play their final game of 2025 on Dec. 30, when they travel to face Lock Haven University. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
