At Snap, we're committed to supporting our more than 375,000 AR creators, developers and teams from nearly every country in the world, from monetization opportunities to innovating with Spectacles and Snap's cutting edge technology. Today, we're excited to announce Challenge Tags, plus educational pricing and a special student discount for Spectacles, making building Lenses even more accessible.

Introducing Challenge Tags

We're excited to announce a new way Snap AR developers can be rewarded for their creativity: Challenge Tags. Now, developers can win cash prizes for submitting Lenses using active Challenge Tags, which are judged on their originality, technical excellence, and theme focus.

Here's how it works: We've teamed up with the AR marketing platform Lenslist so that AR developers from more than 100 countries worldwide can participate - whether they're discovering Snap AR for the first time or are already part of our community.

AR developers can register for each challenge, build a Lens using our AR authoring tool Lens Studio, and simply apply the Challenge Tag in the Lens publishing process to be considered. New challenges will be announced each month with a chance to win a share of the total prize amount.

The theme of the first Challenge Tag is humor and is open through January 31st. It offers a $10,000 prize pool with first, second and third places winning $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000 respectively, and twenty honorable mentions taking home $250. Winning Lenses will be announced on February 14th.

New Educational Pricing and Special Student Discount for Spectacles

Since introducing Spectacles, we've had an overwhelming amount of interest from students, teachers, and staff from colleges and universities across the world. To ensure Spectacles is accessible to this community, we're introducing educational pricing and a special student discount for a subscription fee of $49.50 or €55 a month.

You can access our educational pricing and student discount in all countries Spectacles is available, which includes the US, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands. Any student or teacher enrolled or working at an accredited educational institution in these markets is eligible.
