Ukraine – Russian strike on a passenger train (29 January 2026)

France utterly condemns the Russian drone attack on a passenger train in Ukraine's Kharkiv region, which killed five civilians and injured two others.

As discussions between Russia and Ukraine are held in Abu Dhabi, this strike demonstrates that Russia is stubbornly continuing to bomb Ukraine, targeting strikes at civilians. Nearly four years since the start of its large-scale aggression against Ukraine, it is still up to Moscow to prove through deeds its willingness to enter into peace negotiations in good faith.

France expresses its condolences to the victims' families and its deep solidarity with the Ukrainian people. It will continue to support both the Ukrainian and the international courts, as well as the United Nations' investigation mechanisms, to ensure that these crimes do not go unpunished. It is determined to support Ukraine in the long term and will continue its efforts alongside all its partners, particularly the Coalition of the Willing, to bring about a just and lasting peace.
