As Community Court Judge Martina Peterson prepares to receive the Missouri Bar's 2026 Diversity Champion Award at Noon on Sept. 16 at the Westin Crown Center, Kansas City Municipal Court is highlighting Court Connect, one of the initiatives that contributed to her selection for the statewide honor.
Now in its fourth year, Court Connect brings together eight area courts, volunteer attorneys, and more than 50 community organizations to help individuals address municipal warrants and cases, receive free legal assistance, and connect with resources that support long-term success.
The next Court Connect event will take place Friday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kansas City Municipal Court, 511 E. 11th St.

The Court Connect Resource Fair is open to everyone and does not require registration or court business. Attendees can connect with organizations providing employment, education, housing, utility assistance, mental health services, substance use treatment, veterans services, domestic violence assistance, and other support resources.

Court Connect is one example of the innovative, problem-solving approach at Kansas City Municipal Court, the largest municipal court in Missouri. Alongside Community Court, CARE Court, Wellness Court, WIN (Women in Need of Change), and the Domestic Violence Court Fathers for Change program, the initiative reflects the court's commitment to expanding access to justice through collaboration, connection, and opportunity.
