Yaw: Nearly $300,000 in Conservation and Recreation Funding Awarded in Union County

HARRISBURG -State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) announced $285,900 has been awarded to two projects in Union County by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) through the Community Conservation Partnership Program (C2P2).

"Funding for these projects will undoubtedly benefit our region and have a positive impact on our environment and recreational opportunities," Yaw said. "I am pleased to see these important investments in Union County."

The following entities received funding:

• Kelly Township: $243,400 for the continued development of the Kelly Township Recreation Facility. Improvements will include construction of pedestrian walkways and parking areas, installation of play equipment, fencing, stormwater management measures, ADA access and landscaping.

• Lewisburg Borough: $42,500 to prepare a Master Site Development Plan for the 26-acre Wolfe Field Athletic Complex.

"Funding for this project will allow us to create a playground for children and finish the walking trail around the park," said Dave Hassenplug, chairman of the Kelly Township Board of Supervisors. "It is the completion of our Park Recreational Plan that was adopted several years ago, and we are very happy to receive this grant. We are thankful to DCNR, as well as Sen. Yaw for the support they provided."

The C2P2 is funded with a variety of state and federal funding sources, including the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93), which includes Key-Community and Key-Land Trust; the Environmental Stewardship Fund (ESF); the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF); Pennsylvania Trails Fund (PRT - federal source); Pennsylvania Heritage Area Program (HA); and the ATV Restricted Management Account Fund (ATV).
