Mulvane Art Museum Hosts Opening Reception for Three New Exhibitions May 29

Topeka, Kan. - Washburn University's Mulvane Art Museum will open three new exhibitions this month and host a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the museum on the Washburn campus. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase for guests 21 and older.

In support of "ICONIC: Sports Photography by Walter Iooss Jr.," Jayhawk Coins, Games & More donated a sports memorabilia basket that will remain on display throughout the exhibition's run. Opening reception attendees can enter to win the basket, and museum staff will notify the winner after the exhibition closes in November. The local retailer also provided several additional sports-themed baskets that will be raffled during the reception. All donations will benefit the Mulvane Art Museum.

"We are excited to welcome the community to these three exhibitions, each offering a unique perspective on art, culture and storytelling," said Dr. Sara Stepp, director of the Mulvane Art Museum, Washburn University. "From Hong Chun Zhang's cross-cultural work, to Walter Iooss Jr.'s transcendent sports photography, to the environmental focus of '71%: Picturing Waterways,' these exhibitions reflect the Mulvane Art Museum's commitment to presenting thought-provoking art experiences for all audiences."

The Mulvane Art Museum is open noon to 7 p.m. Tuesdays; noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; noon to 7 p.m. on the first Friday of each month for First Friday Artwalk; and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The Art Lab is open 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free. For more information, visit mulvaneartmuseum.org or call 785-670-1124.
