WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) joined U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and their colleagues to introduce several more bills in the fight to protect women and girls in sports. The Title IX related bills include a bill to assess and prevent violence against women in athletics, a resolution calling on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to revoke its transgender student-athlete eligibility policy, and a resolution declaring October 10th as 'American Girls in Sports Day,' (X/X) which Democrats blocked last Congress.
Last week, Senator Tuberville led 35 Republican colleagues in reintroducing the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, or S. 9, to preserve Title IX protections for female athletes. Sen. Tuberville's legislation would reverse the harmful Department of Education (ED) rule that forces schools to allow males to share private spaces with females and compete in women's sports-or risk losing their funding. The House version of Sen. Tuberville's bill passed the House by a vote of 218-206 earlier today.
"Sports offer unlimited opportunities and teach great life lessons to our young women and girls," said Senator Tuberville. "As a former coach, I have seen firsthand the impact that Title IX has had on women's sports. Unfortunately, the Biden administration has declared a war on Title IX. I'm grateful to be working with my friend, Sen. Blackburn, to restore sanity as we continue to fight for women and girls everywhere.
Last week, I introduced the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which cuts funding for schools that allow men to participate in spaces designated for women. I'm glad to see the House pass its version on a bipartisan basis and urge Majority Leader John Thune to bring my bill to the floor for a vote."

BACKGROUND:
As a former educator, mentor, and coach for more than 40 years, Sen. Tuberville is concerned about the future of girls' and women's sports. Sen. Tuberville has been a vocal advocate of preserving Title IX and urged ED officials to keep the protections in place.
In June 2022, on the 50th anniversary of Title IX's enactment, ED issued a proposed rule to allow biological males to compete in women's sports. Sen. Tuberville urged Joe Biden's Education Department officials to keep the protections in place and cited his concern about the negative implications it would have for female athletes.
Despite receiving nearly 240,000 comments in opposition to the proposed rule, the ED ignored every single one and published the final Title IX rule in April 2024. Sen. Tuberville issued a scathing statement in response to the final rule and pledged to oppose it.
On December 20, 2024, after Vice President Kamala Harris lost in a landslide election to President Trump in November, President Biden quietly rescinded the proposed rule. However, Sen. Tuberville believes it is critical that Congress pass legislation to ensure no future President can attempt to destroy Title IX again.
In January 2024, Sen. Tuberville introduced the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. Specifically, the legislation would:
