SIOUX CITY, IA - Today, Rep. Randy Feenstra, representing Iowa's 4th Congressional District, voted to advance the House Ways and Means Committee's budget reconciliation proposal, which included drastic cuts to clean energy, vehicles, and manufacturing project tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act to fund tax breaks for Trump and his billionaire friends.
Since its passage in 2022, the Inflation Reduction Act's clean energy tax credits have bolstered projects that reduce pollution, lower costs, and improve public health. The tax credits also paved the way for a historic manufacturing boomin the U.S., with energy companies investing $89 billion-a 305 percent increase from pre-IRA investments-in the sector
The tax credits have also already helped create 312,000 jobsin the clean energy sector, and are estimated to create 1.7 millionjobs in the next decade. These jobs are being added in every state in the country, spanning across party lines. In Iowa, IRA clean energy credits have already created 1,000 jobs, and have the potential to increase Iowa's GDP by $2.5 billion and create 15,000 new jobs by 2030.
In response, Sierra Club Iowa Chapter Director, Pamela Mackey Taylor, issued the following statement:
"Rep. Feenstra doesn't care about Iowans. He just voted to take money directly out of our pockets and give it to billionaires. He prioritized tax cuts for the wealthy and sold out everyday Americans. If House Republicans were actually interested in serving the people they represent, they wouldn't slash hundreds of thousands of jobs and raise energy costs."
