Activity Overview: The UT Health Sciences Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology is hosting a one-day symposium on the management of soft tissue sarcoma. The purpose of this activity is to educate healthcare professionals on up-to-date strategies for the evaluation and management of patients with these tumors. The symposium will provide a unique opportunity for clinicians involved in the care of these patients to learn from and interact with leading national and local faculty to increase clinical knowledge, apply new data into practices, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

Objectives:
• Apply contemporary histopathologic and molecular diagnostic principles in the classification of soft tissue sarcomas to improve diagnostic accuracy, prognostication, and treatment selection.
• Differentiate multidisciplinary treatment strategies for major sarcoma subtypes, including gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), retroperitoneal sarcomas, and extremity soft tissue sarcomas, based on histology, stage, and disease location.
• Evaluate the appropriate use of systemic therapy, surgery, and radiation therapy in the neoadjuvant, adjuvant, and metastatic settings for patients with soft tissue sarcoma.
• Incorporate evidence-based surgical decision-making regarding limb-sparing approaches, multivisceral resection, margin optimization, and management of locally recurrent disease.
• Integrate multidisciplinary case-based decision-making to optimize individualized treatment planning, functional outcomes, local control, and long-term survivorship in patients with sarcoma.
