Northbound I-25 reduced to two lanes Oct. 9 through 12 in Monument

El Paso County - The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner, Fleetworthy, is replacing aging Weigh-In-Motion equipment at the Monument Weigh Station the weekend of Oct. 9.

Single lane and shoulder closures should be expected on northbound Interstate 25 between Mile Point 159 and MP 161, from 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 through 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, allowing crews to install the new WIM scales. Northbound I-25 will be reduced to two lanes with a shift toward the median. Backups on I-25, especially at Exit 105 (Baptist Road) will occur, alternate routes suggested.

Work was planned during a weekend with the least impact to motorists as no major events are occurring in the Colorado Springs or Denver areas that would significantly impact travel on I-25. Work is weather dependent backup weekend is scheduled for Oct. 23 to 25.

WIM technology allows trucks to be weighed at highway speeds without requiring them to stop at a weigh station scale. Doing so significantly increases the number of trucks that can be weighed, improving traffic flow and road safety around each station. A WIM system also helps reduce emissions by eliminating idling and it protects the state's bridges and road surfaces by quickly identifying overweight vehicles.

Traffic Impacts

Beginning Friday, Oct. 9 at 9 p.m. motorists can expect the following impacts on northbound I-25 at Monument:

• Friday, Oct. 9, at 9 p.m. through Monday, Oct. 12, at 5 a.m., the right lane of northbound I-25 will be closed
• Motorists can expect lane shifts through the work zone
• Northbound I-25 and northbound I-25 Exit 105 (Baptist Road) will experience backups, alternate routes suggested
• Motorists are urged to obey posted speed limits

• Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
• Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
• Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
• Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
• Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
• Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
• Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
• Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
• Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
• Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
• Be patient!
