Department of Energy Memo Would Silence Climate Experts, Scientists

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Banning the words "climate" and "emissions" at the Department of Energy sets an absurd precedent that scientists and experts cannot use the very words they need to describe the reality of the worsening climate crisis.

"Pretending it's not raining won't stop us from getting wet. And banning words won't ban the consequences of a changing climate and dangerous emissions," said Shannon Heyck-Williams, associate vice president for climate and energy at the National Wildlife Federation. "Instead of silencing their experts, the Department of Energy should return to science-based work on clean energy solutions that actually address the crisis facing people and wildlife."
