On 30 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys met with the Director of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), Carlien Scheele, and the staff. During the visit, cooperation with the Institute in preparation for the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027 was discussed.
"Strengthening social security, responding to demographic challenges, and increasing societal resilience are among the priority areas of Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Gender equality plays an essential role in this context. Therefore, cooperation with the Institute to develop inclusive policies based on a thorough analysis of social processes and good practices becomes particularly important," said the Minister.
Founded 15 years ago in Vilnius, the Institute is the EU's main centre of expertise in the field of gender equality. The Institute provides expertise, data, and tools to help policymakers develop inclusive and transformative measures that ensure equality in all areas of life.

During the visit, possible joint initiatives, events, and projects that could be implemented during the Presidency to promote gender equality across the European Union were discussed.
