Tarleton State Baseball completes comeback, wins game two against SFA

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Tarleton State Baseball (10-14) came out on top during their second game against the SFA Lumberjacks (9-14) on Saturday afternoon, winning 14-8.

With the win, the Purple and White tied the series up 1-1. The Texans tallied a season-high 17 hits, marking their 10th game this season with 10-plus hits. headlined the Texans' effort with a phenomenal five-hit performance with two runs and two RBIs. Following Saturday's game, the freshman now has 23 hits in only 18 appearances.

The Texans also had three other players with multiple hits. and each had three while had two. McCloud leads Tarleton State with 13 multiple-hit performances, six more than the next best on the leaderboard (seven).

SFA got out to a hot start, tacking on two runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run shot from Cooper Schneider, his first of the year. The Texans responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first when drove in and Heinrich, tying the game up at 2-2.

held the Lumberjacks in place with three consecutive scoreless innings, only allowing one hit through that stretch. Tarleton State took control of the lead in the bottom of the fourth frame when singled, provoking an error from left field which caused to advance to home and Shirey to second. The inning was capped off by a double from Heinrich to drive in Shirey, giving the Purple and White a two-run lead after four innings of baseball.

The Texans had a defensive miscue in the fifth inning. Mark Henning capitalized off this opportunity, launching a double to cut the lead to one run. Tarleton State escaped the fifth inning still leading. Despite a leadoff single from McCloud in the bottom of the stanza, the game remained 4-3 after five innings.

SFA rallied back in the sixth inning with three doubles and a walk. The Lumberjacks' hot streak accounted for three runs, giving them a 6-4 advantage and turning the tables in their favor. The Texans did not let this go unanswered, scratching off two runs to even up the game. This was fueled by three straight hits from Shirey, and Heinrich. Heinrich doubled to score Shirey and registered his second RBI of the game. then sacrificed to score Brewster, evening the game up 6-6.

The Lumberjacks would take a late lead in the eighth inning with Schneider recording his third RBI of the game, a single that drove in Ben Hoshizak. Tarleton State faced a one-run deficit with only six outs left to go for SFA.

The Purple and White orchestrated a massive eight-run eighth inning to seal the ballgame. With one out on the board, Heinrich singled to the infield and was later advanced to third base via a double from Drake. Perez was intentionally walked on an attempt to set up a Lumberjack double play. With the bases loaded, McCloud hammered a critical double to right field, sending Tarleton State's dugout into a frenzy and giving the Texans a 8-7 lead.

The Lumberjacks made a pitching change and quickly put two outs on the board. However, this did not end Tarleton State's rally. singled up the middle, a two-RBI shot that drove in Perez and McCloud. came in to pinch hit and got an RBI himself, scoring Morrison and extending the lead to four runs.

After Shirey walked, hit a first-pitch home run to break the game open. This was Brewster's first home run of the season and his third hit of the ballgame. Tarleton State left the eighth inning with a 14-7 lead.

Despite a solo home run from Cermondrick Bland, SFA could not erase the deficit and fell to the Texans 14-8.
