Tanya Saadé Zeenny, President of the CMA CGM Foundation, and Julien Marion, Managing Director of the French General Directorate for Civil Protection and Crisis Management (DGSCGC), an agency under the Ministry of the Interior and Overseas Territories, signed a framework agreement on January 14th. The CMA CGM Foundation supports France's efforts to respond to natural disasters and humanitarian crises in mainland France, overseas territories, and internationally.
Support for Large-Scale Humanitarian Operations with the DGSCGC
The Foundation will support the DGSCGC operations by leveraging the CMA CGM Group's expertise and logistical resources-including maritime, air, and land transport. These resources will be deployed free of charge for targeted operations coordinated by the DGSCGC, both in France and abroad, to support populations affected by crises.
50 Emergency Aid Containers Shipped Free of Charge to Mayotte
As part of this partnership, the Foundation will take in charge the delivery of 50 containers of essential supplies to Mayotte in the coming days. Departing from the Port of Marseille-Fos, this shipment will provide vital support to populations impacted by the recent Cyclone Chido and Dikeledi storm, leveraging CMA CGM Group's maritime transport expertise.
This partnership strengthens CMA CGM's emergency response to the crisis. Since December 18, 2024, four of the Group's vessels have transported more than 965 containers (twenty-foot equivalent units), 2.9 million liters of water and 1,350 tons of food.
Through long-term partnerships, the Foundation continues to support other humanitarian organizations active in Mayotte, including the French Red Cross, solidarity food stores through the ANDES Network, and the French Food Banks (Les Banques Alimentaires).
On Behalf of France, the DGSCGC Is Fully Committed to Humanitarian Crises and Natural Disasters
The DGSCGC, operating under the Ministry of the Interior, is responsible for planning and managing crises, daily emergencies, and major disasters both domestically and internationally. To address such events, the DGSCGC coordinates operations with the support of national reinforcements, ensuring rapid and effective intervention across French territories and abroad. Active in 52 countries, the DGSCGC has a network of 250,000 firefighters, including 50,000 professionals and military personnel, 100,000 volunteers from accredited organizations (such as Civil Protection, SNSM, and the Red Cross) and 2,500 dedicated personnel who are on call 24/7.
Leveraging CMA CGM Group's Expertise, the Foundation Mobilizes to Address Crises
In response to conflicts and natural disasters, the CMA CGM Foundation draws on the CMA CGM Group's expertise and logistical capabilities to act swiftly and effectively in supporting populations affected by crises. Through its "Containers of Hope" program, the Foundation has built significant expertise in humanitarian logistics and forged impactful partnerships with organizations dedicated to humanitarian efforts. Since its launch in 2012, the program has facilitated the maritime transport of 63,000 tons of essential supplies to 97 countries, underscoring its critical role in global relief efforts.
