It's National Hurricane Preparedness Week, and the City's Emergency Management Department wants to educate residents on what they can do NOW to prepare for a hurricane or tropical storm this season. League City is susceptible to riverine and coastal flooding, as well as flooding from low-lying areas. These conditions have caused widespread flooding in the past, such as with Hurricane Harvey.
League City encourages residents to "Plan, Prepare, and Plug in," to stay safe during hurricane season. Here are some important tips on how to plan ahead of the storm:
Make an Emergency Plan
-
Write down your hurricane plan and share it.
-
Make a plan of how you will get in touch with others before, during, and after a storm.
-
Take photos of important documents and store them in a secure place.

Check Your Insurance Coverage
-
Hurricanes bring heavy rains that may cause flooding. Purchase flood insurance before the storm. Remember, there is a 30-day waiting period before your policy takes effect, so be sure to purchase early in the season. Learn more at www.fema.gov/flood-insurance.
-
Are you covered for hurricane dangers such as high winds and damage? Check your insurance policy ASAP.
