Concord, NH - Attorney General John M. Formella, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall, and Berlin Police Department Chief Jeff Lemoine announce that a Coos County Superior Court Jury has found Dustin Duren guilty of Second Degree Murder, following a six-day jury trial.
Mr. Duren was charged with murdering Caitlyn Naffziger by shooting her in the head on February 29, 2024, while Ms. Naffziger sat on the couch inside his apartment located at 1063 Main Street in Berlin, New Hampshire.
Mr. Duren was found guilty of both knowingly and recklessly causing Caitlyn Naffziger's death, as well as for Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon and Endangering the Welfare of Naffziger's child. The verdict was returned by the jury late this afternoon.
"This verdict brings accountability for the tragic and senseless death of Caitlyn Naffziger. We appreciate the jury's careful consideration and extend thanks to our entire trial team for their tireless work, as well as to the law enforcement officers from the New Hampshire State Police, Berlin Police Department, and Keene Police Department whose professionalism and dedication were critical to this investigation. Our thoughts remain with Caitlyn's family," said Attorney General Formella.
Mr. Duren will be sentenced at 10:00 a.m. on December 11, 2025, at the Coos County Superior Court in Lancaster. The defendant is held without bail in the custody of the Coos County Sheriff's Department pending sentencing.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Bethany J. Durand and Joshua L. Speicher, with assistance from Victim/Witness Specialist Bianca Monroe, as well as our law enforcement partners including the New Hampshire State Police, the Berlin Police Department, and the Keene Police Department.
