Sidewalk (ADA) Improvement Project Scheduled in Macon County…

HANNIBAL - Weather permitting, as early as March 30, contractor crews will start work on a sidewalk (ADA) improvement project in Macon County. Initially, work will begin on Route C in College Mound, from Route T north junction to Route T south junction. Upon completion, additional locations will be completed as follows:

  • Missouri Route 149 - from North Commercial Street to Walnut Street in Ethel (Tentatively scheduled for late April)
  • Route J - from East Missouri Avenue to South Elm Street in Elmer (Tentatively scheduled for mid-Spring)
  • Missouri Route 156 - from 550 feet west of South Macon Street to South Main Street in South Gifford (Tentatively scheduled for mid-Spring)
  • Missouri Route 156 - from South Hastings Street to just east of Tremont Street in La Plata (Tentatively scheduled for mid-Spring)

Throughout the project, motorists can expect the following traffic impacts at various locations:

  • Temporary closures of pedestrian facilities
  • Intermittent lane closures with a 10-foot width restriction at the location where crews are actively working
  • Short-term temporary road closures as necessary

A $982,521 contract was awarded last year to Stanton Contracting, L.L.C. of Kirksville, MO. This project is scheduled to be completed by Fall. All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.

This work is being completed as part of MoDOT's initiative for compliance with the current standards of the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA). We ask that motorists please be attentive in work zones for their safety and the safety of highway workers.
