Hiratsuka, Japan-The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today that in December 2024 its natural rubber processing subsidiary in Thailand, Y.T. Rubber Co., Ltd. (YTRC), provided needed food packages to villagers affected by floods caused by heavy rains in southern Thailand, including the country's Surat Thani Province, where YTRC is located. YTRC provided a package consisting of 5kg of rice and twelve 500ml PET bottles of water to each of 235 households in two neighboring villages. By having its employees personally deliver essential supplies to affected households immediately after the disaster, the company was able to further strengthen its relationship of trust with local residents. The village heads expressed their appreciation of YTRC's efforts, noting that the company always helps the village residents in times of trouble. YTRC provided similar support to households affected by flooding in 2020 and 2021.
YTRC has engaged in activities aimed at contributing to its local community and building relationships of trust. In addition to its disaster relief efforts, the company has sponsored various local events and provided seedlings in support of local tree-planting activities. YTRC also supports the local community by providing the fruit from palm trees and the fish from a pond within the company grounds, thus contributing a source of food and income for local residents. Under Yokohama Rubber's "Procurement Policy for Sustainable Natural Rubber," YTRC also is cooperating with the Rubber Authority of Thailand to provide economic support for Thai natural rubber farmers and to improve traceability to ensure transparency and soundness of the supply chain.
Under the sustainability slogan "Caring for the Future," Yokohama Rubber is creating shared value by addressing social issues through its business activities.
