Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) joined several of her Senate colleagues in sponsoring bipartisan resolutions recognizing the service and sacrifice of America's law enforcement officers during National Police Week. She is a proud cosponsor of Senator Bill Cassidy's (R-La.) resolution expressing support for police officers across the country, honoring those killed or injured in the line of duty, and calling for increased resources for law enforcement. She's also a cosponsor of Senator Chuck Grassley's (R-Iowa) resolution, S.Res.735, designating May 10 through May 16, 2026, as "National Police Week."
Yesterday, S.Res.735 passed the Senate by unanimous consent.
"This National Police Week, we honor the unwavering commitment and dedication of our law enforcement officers, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice," said Senator Britt. "Across our nation, these brave men and women risk their lives to protect our communities, leaving their homes and putting themselves in harm's way so we can safely return to ours. Each and every day, they courageously put the safety of others above of their own. I am deeply grateful for their service in upholding the rule of law and strengthening the communities they serve."
Senator Britt is deeply honored to support the efforts and sacrifices of our nation's law enforcement officers, and is a proud cosponsor of the Back the Blue Act, which would increase penalties for criminals who target law enforcement officers and provides new tools for officers to protect themselves.
Senator Britt also honored four fallen Alabama law enforcement officers this week on the floor of the Senate, including Conservation Enforcement Officer Shawn Nixon, Police Officer Dallas Hinton, Corporal David Hathcock, and Lieutenant Mark Meadows.
