On the Hill: Association Fly-In, DHS Shutdown Continues

America's Essential Hospitals will host our annual Federal Advocacy Assembly this week, which includes member hospitals heading to Capitol Hill to engage lawmakers and their staff on essential hospital issues.

The Department of Homeland Security has now been shut down for ten days, with the Senate Democrats and the White House sharing proposals to end it over the weekend. Democrat Leaders Schumer (N.Y.) and Jeffries (N.Y.) released their 10-point plan to overhaul DHS and ICE 19 days ago, and Republican leaders have already rejected some of Democrats' central demands. Republicans and Democrats say they are having good faith talks, but it is unclear when an agreement will be reached.

Committee Activity This Week

The House is in session Monday through Wednesday, and the Senate will be in session Monday through Friday.

The House Committee on Ways and Means will hold a Health Subcommittee hearing on "Advancing the Next Generation of America's Health Care Workforce" on Tuesday, Feb. 24th at 10:00 AM ET.
