Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW), in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), will integrate its Share the Pennies program with TVA's Home Uplift initiative to better serve income-eligible customers with energy-efficiency improvements. The merger is effective May 5, 2026.
Applications for the Share the Pennies program will be open May 5 and 6, 2026.
Under this new structure, Share the Pennies will no longer be administered through MIFA. TVA will manage program operations, combining Share the Pennies funds with Home Uplift services in MLGW's service area, consistent with its approach across all Local Power Companies. This change will streamline delivery, eliminate administrative costs and expand the scope of improvements available to customers.
TVA's Home Uplift program provides free improvements such as HVAC repair or replacement, attic and wall insulation, appliances and electric water heaters. On average, customers save about $500 annually, reduce home energy use by up to 25% and experience improved comfort and overall quality of life.
Since 2018, the Share the Pennies program has invested $11,081,769 weatherizing 1,470 homes. Share the Pennies will continue as a voluntary round-up program, helping fund weatherization and energy-efficiency improvements for eligible households.
TVA's Home Uplift program has partnered with communities across the Tennessee Valley region to weatherize more than 8,300 homes since its launch in 2018.
"We're honored to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with MLGW through Share the Pennies and Home Uplift," said Ray Knotts, Senior Director of Demand Management for TVA. "Together with MLGW, we're lifting up Memphis - making homes safer, more comfortable, and energy bills lighter for the families who need it most."
