Texan Baseball heads to Abilene for I-20 rivalry this weekend

The Purple and White will look to clinch their spot in the WAC Championship after winning it all in 2024.

WAC PLAYOFF CLINCHING SCENARIOS:

• Tarleton State is three games ahead of Seattle U and Utah Tech, who both hold a 5-13 conference record.
• The Texans can clinch the WAC Tournament with a sweep over the Wildcats this weekend, regardless of whatever else happens.
• Tarleton State can also clinch with two wins and a loss from Utah Tech. The Texans hold the tiebreaker over the Trailblazers after sweeping them two weeks ago.
• The Purple and White can also make the conference tournament if they win and the Trailblazers or Redhawks lose all three games this weekend.

• The Wildcats lead the all-time series 22-29.
• The Texans took the last matchup between these two squads, winning 11-1 in the WAC Semifinals on 5/24/2024.
• ACU is 11-21 against Tarleton State in Abilene.
• During the Texans' 11-1 run rule victory in May, posted a hit and two runs while tallied a hit, a run and two RBIs.

• The Wildcats are currently on a three-game losing streak, dropping their series against Indiana.

• Tarleton State senior holds a WAC-high .718 slugging percentage.
• Guerra ranks second on the team with nine home runs in only 34 games started.
• He also leads the Texans with 25 extra-base hits, including 14 doubles.
• Guerra is a perfect four for four this year on stolen base attempts.
• The senior has a home run in two consecutive games, notching one on Saturday and Sunday against CBU.

• Abilene Christian holds an overall ERA of 6.15 while Tarleton State posts a 6.88.
• The Texans have 325 strikeouts while the Wildcats have 402.
• Each squad has over 90 steals this season.
• The Purple and White hold a .303 batting average while the Wildcats have an average of .288.
• ACU ranks third in the conference with an 11-7 WAC record. Tarleton State ranks seventh with an 8-10 conference record.

• Junior leads the team with an overall ERA of 3.68.
• He also leads the Texans in strikeouts (55), innings pitched (63.2) and wins (five).
• Panneton was awarded WAC Pitcher of the Week honors after pitching eight scoreless innings against Utah Tech on 4/25/2025.
• The junior set a new career-high with eight strikeouts against Seattle U in the beginning of April.
• Panneton has the lowest WHIP average on the team, posting a 1.27.
