Iowa City launches pop-up events offering free art and craft supplies

The City has partnered with Dreamwell Theatre to create a series of arts and crafts pop-up events to make sure unneeded art supplies do not go to waste!

The no-cost exchange events are all about saving quality, new, or gently-used art, craft, school, and upcycling supplies and making them available to the public. Johnson County community members and local organizations can donate quality, new, or gently-used items they no longer need or pick up items that they have a use for at no cost!

Accepted donations include:

• Art and craft supplies such as yarn, fabric, writing utensils, popsicle sticks, paintbrushes, etc.
• School supplies such as notebooks, paperclips, binders, etc.
• Upcycling materials such as supplies of egg cartons, brown paper bags, tins (such as Altoids® tins), maps, nails and screws, etc.

Partially consumed and gently used items are accepted for donation, but they must be in good condition and have at least three-fourths of their contents remaining. View a full list of accepted items at https://www.icgov.org/reduce.

Donate quality supplies you no longer need at these times:

• Sunday, July 20: noon to 4 p.m., at the Donation Drive-Thru event
• Thursday, August 7: 2 to 6 p.m., at the East Side Recycling Center
• Friday, August 8: 2 to 6 p.m., at the East Side Recycling Center

Pick up free supplies at these times:

• Saturday, August 9: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the East Side Recycling Center
• Sunday, August 10: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the East Side Recycling Center
