Airlines for America Statement on Nomination of Senator Markwayne Mullin to Serve as DHS Secretary

NEWS UPDATE |March 06, 2026

The following statement is attributable to A4A President and CEO Chris Sununu:

Airlines for America (A4A) congratulates Senator Markwayne Mullin on his nomination to serve as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Senator Mullin has long demonstrated a commitment to strengthening our national security, and we look forward to the opportunity to work with him in this new capacity to ensure a safe, secure and efficient aviation system.

Our collaboration with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Customs officers at airports is critical to ensuring security is prioritized for millions of passengers and thousands of tons of cargo each day. We are confident that Senator Mullin recognizes the importance of these partnerships and the frontline workers who support them.

As TSA officers are facing a $0 paycheck this week, American travelers are experiencing firsthand the significant strains that the current DHS shutdown is causing across the aviation network. Strong leadership at the agency is critical amid yet another government shutdown. We encourage the Senate to move swiftly to confirm Senator Mullin.
