APMA Supports Maryland Interstate Podiatric Licensure Compact Legislation

Last week, APMA provided a letter of support as written testimony to the Maryland Podiatric Medical Association (MPMA) in advance of the Maryland Senate Finance Committee hearing on legislation (SB 333) to join the Interstate Podiatric Medical Licensure Compact (IPMLC).

The testimony highlights how participation in the compact would strengthen Maryland's podiatric workforce by creating an expedited, voluntary pathway for qualified podiatrists to obtain licensure in multiple states, while fully preserving Maryland's authority over licensure, scope of practice, and regulation. APMA also emphasized the compact's potential to improve patient access to timely foot and ankle care (particularly in rural, border, and underserved communities), while supporting telehealth and reducing unnecessary administrative burden for providers.

APMA continues to work closely with MPMA as the legislation moves forward and appreciates the leadership of Maryland podiatrists advocating for policies that improve access to high-quality foot and ankle care provided by podiatrists.
