Mayor for a Day Essay Contest

Contest now open to elementary and middle school-aged Mountain View residents

The 2025 Mayor for a Day essay contest is now open for submissions from Mountain View youth. The essay contest provides an opportunity for youth to learn about local government.

The essay topic is: If you were mayor for a day, what is one problem you would solve?

Here are the contest rules:

  • Must be an elementary or middle school-aged Mountain View resident
  • Maximum of 500 words per essay
  • Only one entry per person

All entries are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10.

Mountain View's Mayor will select up to two (2) winning entries, one from an elementary and one from a middle school-aged student. The winners will be recognized at the City Council meeting held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro St.
