Short-term traffic change scheduled FM 179

WOLFFORTH - A short segment of FM 179 will be reduced to one lane of traffic this weekend starting Saturday, Sept. 12. Work to upgrade the FM 179 drainage structures, just south of US 62/82, will require the roadway to be reduced to one lane and both north- and southbound traffic guided through via a portable traffic signal.

"The work will be done in half-widths with all traffic shifted to one lane, guided through the work zone by temporary signals, then traffic shifted, again into one lane, onto the completed side," said Joe Villalobos, P.E., Lubbock Area Engineer and project manager. "We anticipate the work to take two days to complete and both lanes to be opened to traffic early Monday morning."

Drivers should anticipate delays, use caution when driving through the construction zone since crews will be working in close proximity to traffic or should seek an alternate route, Villalobos added.

The work is part of a $9.6 million project to widen the roadway to accommodate a left-turn lane, improve drainage, place a new road surface, add traffic signals at US 62 and upgrade lighting.
