AKRON, OH - Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the Federal Aviation Administration awarded the Akron-Canton Regional Airport (CAK) $1,715,975 for infrastructure upgrades to the airport.
"These funds will ensure the Akron-Canton Regional Airport remains a reliable and efficient asset for Northeast Ohioans. By fortifying key infrastructure, CAK can better prepare for extreme weather conditions while providing excellent services," said Rep. Sykes.
"We are deeply grateful to Representative Emilia Sykes for her steadfast commitment to securing federal resources for the State of Ohio, and especially for the 13th District," said Ren Camacho, President and CEO of the Akron-Canton Airport. "These critical investments will enable Akron-Canton Airport to continue delivering safe, efficient, and convenient air service for the residents and businesses of Northeast Ohio."
This funding will be used to install security enhancements required by federal regulations, in coordination with the Transportation Security Administration. Specifically, it will fund the installation of CCTV cameras. It also funds the design for the rehabilitation of 18,444 square yards of the Northwest General Aviation Apron pavement to maintain its structural integrity and minimize foreign object debris. This funding will also replace snow removal equipment, including one carrier vehicle with a plow and one rotary plow.
