TLU Alum Stanton F. McHardy Named NAI Fellow

In December, the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) named a select group of academic inventors and innovators to its 2024 class of Fellows, and TLU alum Stanton F. McHardy '90 was among them.

McHardy, recognized by the organization for his prominent advancements in the fields of medicinal chemistry and drug discovery, is an associate professor of medicinal chemistry at UTSA and director of the Center for Innovative Drug Discovery, a collaborative initiative between UTSA and UT Health San Antonio.

NAI Fellows are recognized as pioneers in their fields and are required to be named inventors on at least one patent issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. McHardy holds a total of 42 patents-20 of which were issued in the U.S., all in the field of medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. His research centers around such areas as obesity and diabetes indications, and he plans to expand into the key areas of protein degradation and brain health in the near future.

NAI Fellows collectively hold more than 68,000 U.S. patents, which have generated over 20,000 licensed technologies, 4,000 companies, and created more than 1.2 million jobs. Fellow status is nationally recognized as the highest professional distinction awarded to inventors.
