Statement from Governor Tina Kotek on Today's Supreme Court Decision Upholding Birthright Citizenship

Salem, OR - Governor Tina Kotek released the statement below in response to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision today upholding birthright citizenship as established in the 14th Amendment:

"We welcome the Supreme Court's decision to preserve birthright citizenship as stated in the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution. This amendment has stood in place for over 150 years and has had a significant impact on shaping the culture and history of our country.

"Our immigrant and refugee communities are Oregon communities, and we will continue to defend our neighbors from President Trump's reckless attempts to rewrite the United States Constitution."
