New Permanent Representative of Iceland presents credentials

VIENNA, 4 September (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Iceland to the United Nations (Vienna), Bryndís Kjartansdóttir, presented her credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Monica Juma.

During her career Ms. Kjartansdóttir has served in various capacities, among them:

Ambassador to Sweden, Cyprus and New Zealand with residence in Stockholm (2022-present); Director General, Directorate of Security and Defence, Ministry for Foreign Affairs (2020-2022); Director General of GRÓ - International Centre for Capacity Development (2019-2020); Iceland's Senior Arctic Official (2017-2019); Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy in Stockholm (2016-2017); Director for European Affairs, Ministry for Foreign Affairs (2013-2016); Member of the Negotiating Committee, Iceland's application for membership of the European Union (2009-2013); Director General, Directorate for Export Services, Ministry for Foreign Affairs (2009 - 2010); Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy in Copenhagen (2006-2009); Executive Director, The Arctic Council Secretariat (2002-2004); First Secretary, Embassy in Paris (2000-2001); and First Secretary, Directorate for External Trade and Economic Affairs, Ministry for Foreign Affairs (1999-2000).

Ms. Kjartansdóttir holds a Master of Arts in European Studies from the College of Europe in Brugge, Belgium and a Bachelor of Art in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Iceland in Reykjavík.

Ms. Kjartansdóttir speaks Danish, English, French, Icelandic and Swedish.
