On May 22, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a parked water truck on Cavalier Drive, north of Hillary Crescent.
At 12:30 p.m., West District General Patrol officers and members of the Traffic Division attended the scene where members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service were extracting the driver from a 2020 Hyundai Kona. It was determined that the 49-year-old male driver had suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
With assistance from the Drone Unit and the Identification Section, Traffic Division investigators learned that the Kona was travelling northbound on Cavalier Drive when it drove directly into the stationary water truck at a high rate of speed. The operator of the water truck was transported to hospital in stable condition.
Family of the deceased driver have been notified, and an autopsy is pending. The Traffic Division continues to investigate.
Anyone with information, or who may have dashcam, security, or cell phone video from around the time of the incident, is asked to contact the Traffic Division at 204-986-7085 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
