SARASOTA, Fla. - Penn State Altoona men's swimming student-athlete Caden Traggiai, of Saxonburg, competed in the 2025 College National Open Water Championship on Dec. 13, a 5K swim race hosted by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America at Nathan Benderson Park.

The outdoor 5K swim saw a total of 89 men's competitors take to the water, with participants ranging from all divisions of college swimming. Traggiai finished the 5K in 1:00.44.4 to come in 72nd place overall, including a seventh-place finish among all NCAA Division III swimmers in the event.

To qualify for Saturday's swim, men's student-athletes must have achieved at least one of the following times in 2025: 4:50 in the 500 Yard Freestyle, 10:00 in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, 17:00 in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle, and 1:04:00 in the 5K.

Traggiai met the qualifying criteria in three of those categories, thanks to his times in last season's AMCC-SUNYAC Championships. During the conference championship meet last February, Traggiai recorded times of 4:39.58 in the 500 Yard Freestyle, 9:52.25 in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle, and 16:21.72 in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle.

Traggiai and the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team returns to action on Jan. 17 with a home dual meet against non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College. Start time in the Adler Natatorium is set for 1 p.m.
