The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that the Bronx River Parkway will be closed to all vehicular traffic overnight for two weekends, from Friday, Oct. 31 to Monday, Nov. 3, and Friday, Nov. 14 to Monday, Nov. 17, to allow for crews working on the Penn Station Access project to pull overhead signal cables above the Bronx River Parkway. The closures will be in effect those Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and overnight on Sundays from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Detours will be in place for northbound and southbound traffic on the Bronx River Parkway. Drivers headed north can take Exit 4 and follow the signs to reenter via Pelham Parkway. Motorists traveling southbound on the Bronx River Parkway can take Exit 7E and follow the detour route to reenter via 174 Street.
About the Penn Station Access Project
The Penn Station Access Project is a generational investment in the Bronx that will expand Metro North's New Haven line to reach Penn Station by adding four new, fully accessible stations in Hunts Point, Morris Park, Co-Op City and Parkchester/Van Nest. The project will create a one-seat ride from the East Bronx, Westchester, and Connecticut to Penn Station, significantly cutting down travel times for tens of thousands of commuters. In addition to the four new Metro-North stations, there will also be 19 miles of new and rehabilitated track along Amtrak's Hell Gate Line, which will provide Amtrak riders with faster and more reliable service.
