Public's Assistance Sought in Identifying Hit & Run Driver

Crash Investigations officers are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the hit and run driver who struck a 59-year-old woman Saturday at 5:50 p.m. at the intersection of Dr. DB Todd Jr. Boulevard and Buchanan Street.

North Precinct officers were flagged down hours later at 10:40 p.m. for an unconscious woman lying on the sidewalk near the intersection. They administered Narcan and when she did not respond transported her to St. Thomas Midtown Hospital where she remains in critical condition. A review of camera footage showed that she had been walking in the crosswalk when she was struck by a dark colored 4-door sedan. The car was driven by a black woman wearing a purple shirt and light-colored pants. She got out of the car, and with the assistance of other individuals in the area, helped the pedestrian up from the roadway and placed her on the sidewalk. After several minutes, the driver of the sedan left the scene. The woman remained on the sidewalk until officers located her hours later. No one called the police at that time.

Anyone with information about the driver of the vehicle, the car involved, or the persons who assisted her in moving the pedestrian, is asked to call the Traffic Division at 615-862-7738 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
